Triumph/ Toyota Transmission Conversion
Drive Shaft

  Drive Shaft Modifications

One Piece Toyota/ Triumph Drifter Shaft Available for $325.00

  1. Extend Triumph drive shaft fully.

  2. The drive shaft needs to be solid (Fully extended) so that it will not slide back and forth in the spline area. Install locking split collar so that the drive shaft can not slide on the spline.

  3. Do this in the event that you might want to convert back to a Triumph transmission set up. It needs to be solid. Have it balanced at a drive shaft shop and then install into your Triumph. (See Figure 16a and 16b.) (Optional drive shaft available.)   Standard Drive shaft weighs 15.5 lbs.  The new one piece drive shaft was 12.5 lbs.

  4. Check bolts to be sure they are tightened properly.

  5. Check the transmission fluid, clutch travel, and hook up the battery. Toyota transmission oil: use GL-S 80-90 weight oil.

  6. Test drive, if everything checks out, OK; then install your speedometer cable/ angle drive.

  7. You will need to modify your transmission tunnel. Since your shifter now comes out 2 inches further back, you will need to cut this small area out. Once you install the modified transmission tunnel, make a cardboard template to cover the gap at the front of the shifter. Using your template, take a piece of sheet metal or aluminum and fit it to the transmission cover by using sheet metal screws. This will seal the opening.

  8. Install your interior.
